Portraits by Sam D'Ambruoso
Capturing the essence of mood and personality in oil and pastel paintings as well as maintaining a good likeness of the subject are my primary objectives in creating a portrait. The final product translates into a work of art which is treasured for generations.
My portraits are founded on the tradition of classical drawing skills and achieving a likeness of the subject. Painting with a traditional palette of colors, portraits are developed from photos and from life.
Oil portraits start at $ 1,900, framed, for a head and shoulder painting of the subject. Size of the portrait is normally 16" X 20" to 20" x 24". Half figures, which depict the head and hands are $3,500. Any additional subject added to a portrait such as a child or family pet is an additional $2,000. Full pose which includes a three quarter length of the subject starts at $8,500.
All portraits are completed on a contractual basis and follow a specified schedule which include setting the pose, preliminary approvals of sketches and interval approvals of the portrait, and framing considerations. All portraits are preceded by a black and white pencil drawing and eventual color renditions of the subject. Once approval of these black and white sketches by the client, the portrait is initiated.
For those interested in pencil or charcoal drawings, I provide 14" X 18" drawings of the portrait subject and include matting and framing with the finished artwork. Prices of these framed drawings start at $395.00.
